Audio Experiences’ Environmental Considerations
In an industry where consumption of non-renewable resources is often far from primary consideration, Audio Experience actively engages in eco-friendly behaviours attempting to reduce our carbon footprint. Audio Experience does this by identifying key environmental issues specific to the entertainment industry and employing methods to reduce the result of harmful emissions.
Major Issues Identified
Our Waste Reduction
Entertainment productions are focusing on reducing and minimising waste products. This includes consistent use of recyclable products as well as reusing materials where possible across multiple productions. For example: avoiding the use of non-reusable tapes where applicable.
Energy Use
With large amounts of electronic equipment used on site, energy consumption is a major consideration in making events more sustainable. Productions frequently use external generators as a source of power. Companies are looking at solar-powered alternatives to traditional power sources. Audio Experience engages in the minimal use of external diesel-powered generators when possible. When required to use such generators Audio Experiences also actively aims to reduce unnecessary use, in doing so reducing unnecessary emissions.
Location Considerations
Location considerations are crucial in sustainability efforts for entertainment production companies. Prediction and associated computer-assisted design (CAD) software allow companies to produce events in vast locations while minimising carbon footprints and environmental impacts i.e. Accurate dB SPL prediction to assess the environmental impact on wildlife in surrounding areas. Accurate prediction also allows us to supply the minimal amount of equipment to complete an event successfully. This reduces the toll of transportation and emissions on site.
Transportation and Logistic Considerations
Productions often require the transportation of personnel and materials. These necessary logistic measures often result in harmful emissions. Some preventative strategies Audio Experience uses to address and reduce these negative effects on the environment are:
- Increasing use of teleconferencing and telecommunications as opposed to face-to-face meetings.
- Using more fuel-efficient vehicles
- Reducing loads to minimal sizes
- Carpooling
